Hello, I am back for another Design Team Members Featured Tuesday Make. For this project my starting point was on old weathered piece of wood found in my garden, a plaque given to me by Denise to use and a “photo”. The shape of the piece of wood lent itself perfectly as a frame, so I chose a sticker from the Finnabair Vintage Photobooth sticker book to use as my photo.
First I covered the plaque in two coats of white gesso. It was not quite enough to hide the red, for my third layer of gesso I used a palette knife to spread the gesso thickly across the plaque which also gives extra texture. I also added in places crackle paint. I let everything dry overnight.
For my composition I used embellishments and cabochons from I Love Mixed Media, resin pieces, art stones, bits of chipboard, lace, and paper flowers, then covered with white gesso. For my colour I chose Metallique paints in Brass Hardware and Plum Preserves and Metallique wax Aged Brass.
To finish I added a word from Finnabair Sentiments Sticker Book. I left the original tag on as a reminder as to what the base was originally.

Hi, I’m Carolyn, a mother of 2 grown up girls. I have crafted in some form or other since I was a little girl and began my mixed media journey back in 2012. I love rust, the colour teal and finding bits of ‘treasure’ to use in my collage projects.
