Your Story Matters

Hello, Carolyn here with my latest Design Team Member Featured Tuesday Make.

For my project I have used a photo frame I bought in a charity shop. I love going to charity shops, have a mooch around, see if there is anything there I can alter. I have not done anything to the frame itself, the colour of the wood is too nice to alter.

For the inside of the frame I also decided to keep the glass and the white paper between the base and the glass. I turned the paper over, as there was nothing written on the back, and covered with a piece of white lace. The base was complete, now to work on the glass.

Using texture paste and Finnabair stencil Wallpaper I stencilled on top of the glass. I used the stencil upside down. When this was dry I put the stencil back in place and stencilled over the texture paste with Brushed Iron metallique wax.

I made my composition using I love mixed media embellishments, including a Crown Key, and pieces from the Re-Design moulds Aviary and Herbology. These two moulds are fabulous, I love that they both have a range of sizes within the mould, going from small delicate pieces to big and bold.

I covered everything with gesso.

For my focal point I used a resin frame Denise had kindly poured for me, again covered with gesso, and chose a photo from the Finnabair Vintage Photos sticker book.

For the composition itself I used Finnabair Liquid Acrylic Deep Turquoise, and Lindy’s Moonshadow Mists Long John Silver and Buccaneer Bay Blue as my colours. I started with touches of the Deep Turquoise here and there and instead of spraying water to tone the colour down I used the two Lindy’s Moonshadow mists. For my frame I used Finnabair Stormy Ocean metallique paint, again toned it down with the mists, and finished with Old Silver metallique wax.

The heart keyhole shutters lay flat so to give my project a bit more dimension I popped some cut up wooden coffee stirrers behind each shutter.

I decided to add the I Love Mixed Media Metal Dragonfly, the bright silver made a lovely contrast. This led me to then add touches of Lindy’s Chrome Doesn’t Pay on my background composition.

To finish I used a stamp from the Finnabair Carte Postale stamp set, stamping it onto a piece of old book paper.
